Hearing Clearer Awareness

Man getting a hearing test by audiologist

David Ormerod Hearing Centres conducted a poll of 4000 people with the following results:

-  Did you know that as many as one in seven people in the UK have problems with their hearing?
-  Two thirds of people have a friend or relative that they believe has undiagnosed hearing, whilst 27% know two or more people who they think could benefit from a hearing aid.
-  The average waiting time for a hearing test on the NHS is 36 weeks.

Our research has shown people often struggle for years before seeking help with their hearing. This is why we are continuing our national Hearing Clearer Campaign- to improve the nation’s hearing

*While Hearing Concern Link supports David Ormerod Hearing Centres’ campaign to raise awareness of hearing loss, it also supports other providers of hearing aids both in private and NHS sectors.

Why have we chosen January for our campaign?

Christmas can be such a challenging period if you are struggling with your hearing, as there are typically more social situations with friends and family to face. It can be tiring for you and your family to hold conversations - having to ask others to constantly repeat themselves is frustrating for everyone. Many people with hearing difficulties feel removed from all the fun around them, often preferring to struggle on in silence rather than draw attention to their problems.

The month of January will represent a focal part of the campaign every year and will be known as Hearing Clearer Awareness Month.
