Fondly known as the voice of motor racing, Murray Walker’s effervescent and enthusiastic style of television commentary drew many fans to Formula One motor racing over the past three decades. But the years of exposure to extremely loud engines came at a price for Murray as he discovered that this, along with age-related hearing problems, had contributed to lasting hearing loss in both ears. How I solved my hearing problem
Everyday tasks such as socialising and talking on the telephone became difficult. But it was my wife Elizabeth who really made me realise the extent of the problem and encouraged me to do something about it. I now have digital hearing aids from David Ormerod Hearing Centres and my quality of life has dramatically improved. My wife would regularly pick me up on my hearing, particularly about the volume of the television. I could hear but I just couldn’t hear clearly and distinguish speech. Group situations or busy bars and restaurants were the hardest. I got by but it wasn’t easy, I would often feel isolated and frustrated by my hearing loss.”

Free hearing assessment
I initially had a quick 5-minute hearing test followed by a more in-depth assessment and was fitted with state-of-the-art Phonak MicroSavia Art hearing aids in both ears. Each aid includes a variety of advanced technological features including an ability to suppress background noises
without affecting speech understanding. My hearing is now so much sharper. The clarity and the ease with which I hear have greatly improved. The service at David Ormerod Hearing Centres was excellent and they really cared about me as an individual and making a difference to my life. It has also meant a big improvement for my wife Elizabeth.
The best possible solution
I don’t mind wearing hearing aids and I am really pleased that I have the best possible solution. If you cannot hear properly then you cannot communicate effectively and so your quality of life suffers. Modern technology means you can now do something about it, so what is stopping you!
